L-R Holly Chapman, Mireille Mathlener, Tony Barrett Powell, Heather Price

The Band

After a brief hiatus, Mathlener returned with a new line up for the 2018 EP 'Burned/You're Not Alone' with Tony Barrett Powell on guitar, Holly Chapman on bass and Heather Price on drums, whilst undertaking an extensive tour of live shows that highlighted a strong back catalogue of songs.
Richard Craine returned to play bass, replacing Holly Chapman, for the singles 'Rise', 'Halcyon Days' and 'The Lonely Photographer' in 2020 and 'The Nightingale' in early 2021, with Chris Finn joining on bass for the live shows midway through 2021.

Mathlener played live extensively over the following years, forming the Mireille Mathlener Band during this period, adding Richard Riley on guitar, Richard Craine on bass and John Groves on drums, before releasing the sophomore album 'So Much For Superman' in 2008; adopting a more 'country' feel, the album contained a number of strong tracks, with 'Never Meant To Be Friends' and 'Night Sets In' earning high praise and regular radio play, whilst the band continued to gain solid reviews from their live shows.

The third release 'Borrowed Land' arrived in 2011 and this album continued the established strong country-rock feel that had built around 'So Much For Superman', with regular live tracks 'Philomena O'Grady' and 'Black Dress' as stand out songs, but Mathlener also returned to a more indie-rock feel on songs such as 'Oh Anna', 'Written In Blood' and 'Going Under'. The single 'Remember The Kennedys' featuring just Mathlener and Richard Craine was released in 2013, with Rich Wilcox replacing John Groves on drums for the live shows around this time.

Mireille Mathlener debuted in 2001 with the lo-fi album 'National Lemonade' gaining critical acclaim for the blend of acoustic and indie-rock sounds on songs such as 'Joanna' and 'Ginger High', but also highlighting a more subtle approach in songs such as 'Life Has Failed Us Both' and 'Driving'.
